How to do business in Ukraine in a “white” way

Problems and opportunities of doing business openly and transparently, in a “white” way, were discussed at the “White starts and wins” business forum, held in Kyiv on February 23, 2016.

A great deal of attention was attracted by the success-story of Ireneusz Derek (citizen of Poland), co-owner and CEO of Plastics-Ukraine, who having worked in Ukraine for 17 years managed to build a company, which had declared UAH  500 mln of income and paid UAH 163 mln of taxes by 2016. According to Ireneusz, all these 17 years he managed to do his business transparently. It is surely difficult, but real. Only those who manage their business with honestly and goodwill can boldly assert their rights. Ireneusz assured that engaging an external consultant is more effective than staying under  constant pressure of corruption. “A reliable external consultant is the key to avoiding mistakes in the legal field” – says Ireneusz. The defense of his interests Ireneusz entrusts to the International Legal Center EUCON.

Managing partner of the International Legal Center EUCON Yaroslav Romanchuk agreed that doing business in Ukraine in a transparent way is difficult, but possible and, more importantly, profitable for the long-term development of the company. Moreover, only those companies who operate openly and transparently can enter the European market.

Larysa Vrublevska, Partner of the International Legal Center EUCON, spoke about the advantages of delegating tax accounting functions, as well as some global trends in tax planning.

Yevgen Petrenko, Counsel of the International Legal Center EUCON spoke about the order of actions to perform in case of unexpected visit of controlling authorities or law enforcement. Practice shows that the most effective model of protecting interests of the company is to have a reliable external consultant, authorized by the company to communicate with controlling authorities.

The forum also introduced the System of collective business security in Ukraine” project, a new mechanism for protecting the interests of “white” companies, which provides involvement of a lawyer and a journalist in the procedure of communication with inspectors. Such a scheme has already proved its effectiveness in practice.

The forum was organized by the Ukrainian Business Association and “Business” weekly.
